What started off as a small independent real estate advisor in Stockholm in 1994 has over the last 30 years grown to be the leading real estate advisor in the Nordics and Baltics. Read more about Newsec's journey and milestones below.
1994 –
Newsec was founded by Urban Edenström
In 1994, Urban Edenström founded Newsec in Stockholm, Sweden. Rooted in curiosity and adaptability, he built a company where collaboration and excellence thrive, always putting people first.
1997 –
Newsec acquired Westpartner, a full-service company in Gothenburg, Sweden
Newsec acquired Westpartner, a full-service company offering both consulting and property management, to strengthen its position in western and southern Sweden. This marked the large-scale establishment of Newsec’s property management operations.
1998 – 2000
The first Newsec fund was initiated - NIAM I
Newsec initiated our first fund, called NIAM I. Later in 2000 NIAM became its own company, owned by Newsec.
1998 –
Newsec entered strategic partnerships in Denmark and in Norway
With new partnerships in Denmark and Norway, Newsec had grown into the Nordic region's leading real estate advisory firm.
1999 – 2019
Datscha was founded by Newsec
One of Newsec's main business areas Research & Strategic Analysis was developed even further and Newsec created a new company - Datscha, offering property data. Datscha was successfully sold in 2019 to an American company.
2001 –
The first Newsec Property Outlook was published
With Newsec's expert knowledge and huge amount of data the Newsec Property Outlook, NPO, was invented. The NPO is a free-of-charge market report where we share expert insights within the real estate industry.
2004 –
The Newsec Core Values was put into words - Passion for Colleagues & Clients
At a conference, gathering all Newsec employees (approximately 100 people), the Newsec culture and Core Values were for the first time put into words. With our focus on Passion for Colleagues and Clients, in that order, Newsec was groundbreaking in putting our employees first. The belief, that still stands today, is that happy colleagues will lead to happy clients.
2005 –
Newsec acquired Tallberg Toimitilajohto Oy in Finland
Newsec was established in Finland by acquiring Tallberg Toimitilajohto Oy, to strengthen its position in Finland and the Nordics.

Stronghold was established
The Stronghold group was established, majority owner of Newsec and our sister companies. ...
2007 –
Newsec acquired Eiendoms-Consult AS, a Norwegian property consultant company
Newsec acquired Eiendoms-Consult AS, a Norwegian property consultant company. This strengthened Newsec’s position in Norway and the Nordic market.
2007 –
Newsec Energy (today Energy Transition) was launched
Newsec Energy Transition is an expert renewable energy and energy transition M&A advisor with an unparalleled track record of +80 closed deals in the Nordics at a value of approximately EUR 12 billion (2024). The team take pride in having enabled a substantial part of the wind- and solar park build-out in the Nordics during the past 18 years and continues to scale-up on the dynamic energy transition market in Northern Europe.
2009 –
Newsec acquired part of Re & Solution, a Baltic property consultant firm
Newsec was established in the Baltics by the acquisition of a part of the Baltic property consultant firm Re & Solution. The group had 85 employees and offices in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. This was one step closer for Newsec to become The full Service Property House in Northern Europe.
2012 – 2012
Newsec exceeds 500 employees
Newsec is now over 500 employees in the Nordics and Baltics.
2012 –
Newsec expanded the Capital Markets with Mid Cap in Sweden
Newsec established Capital Markets Mid Cap, by partnership with two leading brokers specializing in smaller property transactions, up to 100 million, in southern Sweden and Mälardalen. Newsec now had approximately 75 transaction advisors, including 50 in Sweden.
2012 –
New business areas was established
Newsec launched two subsidiaries under Newsec Asset Management: Newsec Competence, offering staffing services for the real estate sector, and Newsec Technical Services, focusing on property operations and maintenance.
2013 –
Newsec acquired JLLs property management business in Sweden
Newsec acquired JLL's Swedish property management operations, adding 60 employees. The acquisition strengthened Newsec's position as the leading, long-term partner in commercial property management across the Nordics.
2013 – 2019
Newsec launched strategic communication services
Newsec Communication was established to offer strategic communication advisory services to real estate-related companies in Sweden. The focus areas included Investor Relations, Public Affairs, and Corporate Communication. Newsec Communication was divested in 2019.
2015 –
Stronghold Realtech was launched
Newsec launched Stronghold Realtech to stay at the forefront of PropTech within the real estate sector. The strategy includes investments in startups within the PropTech sector through Newsecs mother company, Stronghold. Realtech was later rebranded as Proptech and subsequently Growth.
2016 –
Newsec exceeded 1 000 employees
Newsec is now over 1 000 employees in the Nordics and Baltics.
2016 –
Established the business area Advisory in Denmark
In 2016 Newsec formed a partnership with Egeskov & Lindquist in Denmark. The collaboration, operating under the Newsec brand, aims to become the leading advisor in the Danish real estate market. In 2017 Newsec acquired part of Danish advisor, Datea, to further establish the business area Advisory in Denmark.
2016 –
Newsec acquired Sefab Gruppen, a technical property management company in Sweden
Newsec acquired Sefab Gruppen, strengthening its offering within technical property management and operations, particularly in the Stockholm area.
2016 –
Newsec acquired OBOS Basale, the leading property management company in Norway
Newsec acquired the Norwegian property management company OBOS Basale to become the market leader in Norway, and further strengthen its offering within property asset management in the Nordic market. Through this acquisition, we welcomed 200 new employees to the Newsec family.
2017 –
Newsec acquired DATEA to strengthen position in Denmark
Newsec acquired DATEA, Denmark’s leading commercial property manager, from DADES. This strengthens Newsec’s position in Denmark and the Nordic market.
2009 –
Newsec ranked among Sweden's top workplaces for the first time
For the first time, Newsec has been ranked as one of Sweden's best workplaces by Great Place to Work, securing third place on the list of large organizations. Newsec is still (2024) ranked as one of Sweden's best workplaces.
2019 –
Newsec acquired Tjuvholmen Drift AS, a property management company in Norway
Newsec acquired Tjuvholmen Drift AS to enhance its presence in the Oslo region and complement its existing operations in Norway.
2020 –
Newsec exceeded 2 000 employees
Newsec is now over 2 000 employees in the Nordics and Baltics.
2020 –
Newsec acquired Riba, a Sustainability & Technical Services company in Sweden
Newsec acquired Riba AB, a leading player in technical property management and projects in the Stockholm area. Through this acquisition, we welcomed 50 new employees to the Newsec family.
2021 –
Newsec acquired Helhetskontroll AS, a Norwegian company specializing in planning and building permit processes
Newsec acquired Helhetskontroll AS, aligning with the group's goal of becoming Northern Europe’s leading property manager.
2021 –
Newsec Digital Solutions was founded (Digital accelerator)
Newsec Digital Accelerator was established to drive innovation and accelerate the digital transformation of the real estate sector.
2022 –
Newsec acquired Zynka, a leading BIM company in Sweden
Newsec acquired Zynka, a leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) company in Sweden. This acquisition enhances Newsec’s capabilities in digital property management and innovation within the real estate sector.
2021 –
Newsec acquired Hinna Park Facility Management AS in Norway
Newsec acquired Hinna Park Facility Management AS, aligning with the group's goal of becoming Northern Europe's leading property manager.
2022 –
Newsec announced new vision & strategy - Transforming Real Estate, and beyond.
Newsec unveiled its new vision, "Transforming Real Estate, and beyond," along with the new strategy to first (1) protect and expand current core, second (2) create new service offerings, and third (3) expand geographically.
2023 –
Newsec exceeded 2 500 employees
Newsec is now over 2 500 employees in the Nordics and Baltics.
2023 –
Newsec acquired Rådgivende Ingeniører Løyning AS, a HVAC and energy optimization company in Norway
Newsec acquired Rådgivende Ingeniører Løyning AS, complementing its existing operations in Norway and enhancing its service offerings in energy optimization.
2024 –
Newsec Celebrating 30 years and beyond. Proud history, bright future.
Today Newsec employs 2 700 people across the Nordics and Baltics. With a revenue of approx 3 MEUR Newsec is the leading real estate advisor in the Nordics and Baltics.

The values we live by today are just as important as they were 30 years ago. What we established back then still holds true today.
